Fall Term Brings New Interns to Friends

After a productive Summer with 9(!) interns buzzing around the field office and nursery, we’ve had to bid them adieu and make room for a new cohort.
This Fall, we’ll be welcoming interns in our Habitat and Nursery programs as well as our first student to be a part of our new Nonprofit Management and Administration internship.

Heather Hale comes to us from the University of Oregon Landscape Architecture and Design program and will be spending time in the Nursery learning about native plants, seed cleaning and propagation processes.

Abby Andrews is a part of the ENVS Environmental Leadership Program and will be learning about the administrative side of conservation work under the guidance of our Executive Director, Janelle McCoy. Her time will be split between our Pleasant Hill office, field office and probably some work from home, but we plan to get her out in the field at least a handful of times over the term to ensure she gets her hands dirty and gets perspective on what implementing our programs looks like.

Dani Feagan is enrolled in the Earth Sciences program at University of Oregon and will be our first intern serving from that program! She’ll be learning about our habitat restoration work alongside our land stewards and learning about the geology and hydrology of Buford Park and our Turtle Flats restoration site.

We have been hard at work both expanding and enriching our internship programs at Friends and we’re thrilled to be offering experiential learning experiences to more and more students. The work is paying off, as evidenced by the fact that some of our interns are sticking around!

Emma Koelbl, who interned with our Trail Steward this Summer, has continued her service as a volunteer and is spending her time continuing to help with our Trail 3 East project and Brandon Fitzpatrick, who interned with our land stewards last Spring, has been kept on as a seasonal land steward this Summer.

If you have a student in your life who you think would be interested in an internship with Friends of Buford Park, make sure to send them to our internship application or get ahold of Friends’ Volunteer and Intern Coordinator, Jared Tarr, at volunteer@bufordpark.org.
