Western crabapple is tolerant of waterlogged soils, as well as summer drought, making it a good candidate for a bioswale or winter-wet location in the garden. The fruit are small and range in color from yellow to pink to red. Although they are quite tart, they are edible for humans, and can offer winter forage for birds as well.
