Description

This milkweed has whorls of narrow linear leaves, topped with dusty pink flowers in late July. Plants gradually spread via underground rhizomes. This species, along with showy milkweed, are the most commonly-used host plants for the Monarch butterfly in western north America. The fruits are long slender pods that split open in fall to release papery brown seeds on long silken threads.
