Description

Coast tarweed produces clusters of small yellow disk and ray flowers atop sticky, bristly stems. Resin glands give the plant a strong, tarry scent. Common in grassy fields and disturbed areas. The abundant seeds were a staple of Native American diets and are also popular with many birds and small mammals.
