Description Stream violet (pioneer violet, smooth yellow violet) is a low, trailing, almost evergreen violet that forms mats of thick, leathery, heart-shaped leaves. The lower petals of the perky yellow flowers form a landing platform for insects seeking nectar within the spur. Common in moist, shaded places in the woods, stream violet is a choice plant for woodland gardens. Spreads by seed.
