Educator Stephen Moore Named New President of Friends of Buford Park & Mt. Pisgah Board of Directors

Steve Moore, Board President

The Friends of Buford Park & Mt. Pisgah is proud to announce that board member Stephen Moore was recently elected President of the organization’s Board of Directors. Stephen has an extensive background in leading and educating youth in field experiences within public lands. A gifted teacher, he designs educational programs that help young people to fully appreciate the value of our shared natural resources. Stephen worked with Northwest Youthcorps to develop a charter school based on conservation and land management principles.

I’ve always felt that the natural world is a great classroom,” says Stephen. “Buford Park is a gorgeous, untainted resource and the perfect space for multiple communities to connect with nature.”

Stephen is always outdoors. When he isn’t teaching, he’s cycling, hiking, camping, fly fishing, skiing, or riding his motorcycle. He’s also a husband and the father of three children. Stephen vividly remembers exploring Mt. Pisgah for the first time on horseback. It was 2003 and he had just moved from Los Angeles. Since then, he has done important work for community-focused nonprofits and served on several advisory boards in the Eugene-Springfield region.

“The members of our Board have expertise in so many critical areas,” says Executive Director Janelle McCoy. “Natural areas management, business, real estate, law, biology, public planning, youth mentorship, economic development, etc. Steve is the perfect person to serve as President. He has this genuine gift for empathizing with various perspectives and finding common ground. He’s a natural collaborator.”

Janelle is quick to add, “And having worked so closely with such a diverse range of people of all ages, Stephen Moore is deeply committed to leading the Board as it makes the park even more accessible to the broadest community possible.”
